Runs the shop and the schedule. Still takes the first look at a tank that has her stumped.
The shop
A family shop on South Florida Avenue
Esperanza Valdez runs the shop with her son Cristobal. Seven of us work from one building, with a stocked van.
We do water heaters first and the rest of residential plumbing second. Most of our calls begin with a cold shower, and most of the answer is a photo of a label and a straight conversation about repair or replace.
Who speaks Spanish
Esperanza and Cristobal, on the phone and at the door
If neither is free, Shanta takes your number and one of them calls back
Not everyone on the crew does

The crew
The people at the front
Three more installers and helpers round out the seven. You'll meet whoever comes to the door by name before they arrive.
Cristobal Valdez
Lead installer, speaks Spanish
Esperanza's son. Writes the price down before he shuts the water off.
Answers the phone, reads the label photos and books the van. Takes your number for a Spanish call back.
Dedrick Wiggins
Installer
Sets tanks, runs the new connectors and hauls the old one out. Leaves the closet cleaner than he found it.
